Expectation for School use

KMBA is very pleased and thankful for the very positive relationship developed with Coldbrook, Berwick, KCA, Aldershot, Somerset and Berwick Schools. KMBA is permitted the use of these gyms free or at a nominal cost, which in turn permits KMBA to keep our registration for the program at a reasonable rate for you. The use of these schools is a privilege and not a right! Please support KMBA in maintaining this positive relationship with the school, custodial staff and staff by respecting these reasonable requests:

  • Players are not permitted to be in the hallways or return to their classrooms to pick up indoor footwear for basketball - please instruct your child to bring home his/her indoor footwear prior to basketball practices/games.

  • KMBA Gators and families only need to be in the gym. Washrooms are available as you enter the main doors in Coldbrook and Berwick. Washrooms are located inside the gym at Somerset, Aldershot and KCA.

  • All outdoor footwear (kids and adults) is to be removed prior to entering the gym

Coldbrook Specific Regulations:

  • Due to the revised AVRCE school policy to keep the main doors to the school locked, we must strictly monitor who enters the building while we are using the school. The doors will be locked as of 6:30pm on practice nights and cannot be propped open by any means, even for the drop off or pick up times. School doors must also remain locked on weekends. The only time the door will remain unlocked is when the custodian unlocks it.

  • No one is to be in the halls. The gym and lobby are the only approved areas.

  • The rock wall is off limits for KMBA players, siblings or friend.

  • Everyone must remain OFF the stage. This is an off limits area.

  • The curtain in the gym may be used to split practices however kids are NOT permitted to close the curtain and must be kept from hanging from it or onto it. Closing and opening the curtain is the responsibility of the coaches or managers.

Coldbrook School Fire Escape Plan:

Everyone in the gym evacuates from 2 door options:

  • The main door for those in the lobby or in the gym on the top part of the gym;

  • The lower door for those sitting near the stage area (other side of curtain)

Everyone goes directly to the soccer field where the coach and/or team manager MUST ensure that everyone is out safe.

Somerset Specific Regulations:

  • Players are not permitted to be in the hallways or return to their classrooms to pick up indoor footwear for basketball - please instruct your child to bring home his/her indoor footwear prior to basketball practices/games.

  • KMBA Gators and families only need to be in the gym. Washrooms are located inside the gym at Somerset.

  • All outdoor footwear (kids and adults) is to be removed prior to entering the gym AVRSB school policy to keep the main doors to the school locked, we must strictly monitor who enters the building while we are using the school. The doors will be locked as of 6:30pm on practice nights and cannot be propped open by any means, even for the drop off or pick up times.

  • No one is to climb on the gym mats piled in the gym. This is a safety hazard!

 Somerset School Fire Escape Plan:

Please see the Somerset School After Hours Use of Facility Fire Plan and Escape Route.

Berwick School Specific Regulations:

Unlocking/uncoding the school:

  • Any evening when school has occurred the side doors and gym will be opened. The janitorial staff have the regular KMBA schedule to ensure the facility is unlocked.

Practice time & Game time:

  • Please ensure all players and parents remove outer footwear before entering the gym.

  • No one is to be running around the stage area. Sometime best to close the curtains; the ropes to close the curtains are on the left side of the stage.

  • No one is to access the remainder of the school. Only the entry, hallways to the gym, the gym, washrooms and the water fountain are spaces to be used.

Close-up:

  • Please leave the gym as you have found it...or better.

  • Check the washrooms to ensure things are not over flowing.

  • Check the exit doors in the gym to ensure these are closed.

  • Turn all lights out if you are the last to leave the school (i.e. no janitors).

Fire Safety:

  • There are many exits from the main gym and through the school. Make notice of these for yourself and to your players.

  • I would recommend the west (main) parking lot as a mustering station for players and parents; this is where everyone normally parks.

  • Should a fire occur, please pull the alarm and exit promptly.

KCA School Specific Regulations:

Shoes:

  • Facility users must leave outdoor shoes in the main foyer.

Main Doors:

  • Facility users must use the front main door to enter and exit the building. These doors are not to be propped open.

Gym Doors:

  • The outside doors in the gym can be propped open but users are not to go in and out of those doors. This will eliminate any outdoor debris coming inside.

Access:

  • Access is approved for the gym only. Other areas of the school are strictly off limits.

School Closures:

  • In the event that there is a provincial/federal holiday or a snow day issued by AVRCE, the school will  be closed and as such the booking will be automatically cancelled.

School Events:

  • There may be occasional days when bookings will be cancelled due to school events.

Food:

  • No food or drinks, other than water, are permitted in the gym.

Washrooms:

  • You may only use the washrooms in the gym.
